Amber Laura Heard (born April 22, 1986) is an American Actress. Her film debut came in 2004 alongside Billy Bob Thornton in Friday Night Lights. She is famous for roles in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Zombieland, Drive Angry and The Danish Girl. She is currently filming Justice League where she will play Mera.
Heard was born in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Patricia Paige, an internet researcher, and David Clinton Heard, a contractor. She has a sister, Whitney. She dropped out of high school but eventually earned a diploma through a home-study course. When Heard was 16, her best friend died in a car crash; Heard, who was raised Catholic, subsequently declared herself an atheist after being introduced to the works of Ayn Rand by her then-boyfriend.
Heard was involved in various televisions shows in smaller roles before landing the role of Maria, her first film role, in Friday Night Lights in 2004, which was a critical and commercial success. However, none of the projects that followed in the following couple of years matched the success of Friday Night Lights. In 2007, Heard was cast in the CW's Hidden Palms. She portrayed Greta Matthews, a character who suffers the loss of both her mother and boyfriend. She was famously asked to gain 25 pounds to land the role. However, the show was treated terribly by the network and only eight of the twelves episodes were aired.
A year later though, she played the lead role in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, which actually premiered at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival and was picked up by Harvey Weinstein. However, it took over a year for the film to release. It was finally picked up by a different distributor and was released in February of 2008. The director praised Amber's performance stating, "there was a certain type of beauty and a certain type of innate intelligence that Amber brought to it that is not something you find every day. Certainly, not something you would find in somebody her age. The wisdom she projects, I thought was pretty remarkable." The Los Angeles Times also praised her acting, saying that it was her "definitive [performance] to date." and The Washington Post stated that Heard gave a "psychologically interesting performance."
In the following years, Heard has featured in films such as Pineapple Express and Never Back Down also in 2008, The Joneses, Zombieland where she plays Jesse Eisenberg's neighbour and object of affection, and The Stepfather in 2009.
2011 saw her take the leads roles alongside Nicolas Cage and Johnny Depp in Drive Angry and The Rum Diary respectively.
In 2013 she appeared in the films Paranoia, Machete Kills and 3 Days to Kill. She also featured in the film Syrup, which gained her more praise. The author of the book the film was adapted from called Heard "amazing" and that she "annihilated that character. In a good way."
She again received more positive reviews for her parts in the 2015 films, The Adderall Diaries, One More Time and The Danish Girl. She also featured in the Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL.
Heard is currently filming Justice League where she will play Queen Mera and wife to Jason Momoa's Aquaman, which is due to release in 2017. She will also reprise the role for the standalone Aquaman film in 2018.
Heard is currently single and weighs 525lbs.
